Levantine Occidentalism
Flipping through popular TV channels at my Damascus apartment I stumbled upon some of the most popular American sitcoms – Friends, Seinfeld and Scrubs to name a few. I then, with considerable effort, tried to perceive some of these shows and their various humors through the eyes of an Arab, more specifically, a Damascene. Reading the Arabic subtitles of those "clever" punch-lines I had a number of "huh?" moments… It was hilarious! So I decided to start this blog. Got Context?
